In March of 1997 I was diagnosed with ALS or, as it is more commonly called, Lou Gehrig's Disease. Knowing that I would only be able to play for a few more months, Ed and I immediately began recording a CD that has now been released under the title "No Hyenas". I was left with the perplexing task of trying to document the many other musical viewpoints that I habitually dealt in. Bruce and I started to go through the recorded material in which I had participated over the years. Although few of the recordings had been made with the intention of being included on a CD, we found that I had a number of cuts that fit well together and did a good job of displaying the variety of musical contexts that I was comfortable with. Included on the CD are six solo pieces and two flute trios that I composed, two of Bruce's compositions, three selections from a live concert where I performed with the Vernier Duo, and two jazz tunes performed by flute and piano. I hope that you find this extremely personal CD enjoyable. | |||
