Synthetic Division is a couple of trombonists having fun, no competition, no holds barred. We got happy, we got sad. We got nasty, we got mad! We expressed our love for the great trombonist, Frank Rosolino, and our disdain for the military shenanigans of the time (MX missile). But above all, it's us improvising, with a form, and maybe some melodic or rhythmic structure, but the harmony is as it happened.
The great thing about doing a CD this way is the magic of the moment and how it leads, inexorably to the proper conclusion. It cannot be forced, it must be natural. That's why free music is so hard, and at the same time so easy, to play. And when it "happens", it's truly tons o' fun.
